Few tidbits from the panhandle's girls basketball scene today...
First, Kama Griffitts became the all-time scoring leader in the history of Coeur d'Alene High School Tuesday night when she scored 29 in a road win at Lewiston. She overtook Shaylia Davis, who played briefly at Boise State.
The 58-54 Vikings' win, their 23rd in a row, wasn't easy. In fact, Lewiston head coach Pat Teichmer went so far as to say he thought his girls outplayed the top-ranked Vikings, "just didn't get more points than they did."
Either way, Lewiston (13-5, 5-4 IEL) let CdA (19-0, 10-0) know that the Bengals intend to be a factor when district tournaments start up next week.
The third 5A team in District I/II, Lake City, picked up an easy win over Sandpoint while Post Falls, the fourth, blistered Moscow.
It sets up an interesting game in the 4A IEL on Friday when Sandpoint (2-17, 0-9) hosts Moscow (3-13, 1-8). A win for Moscow secures the number one seed-- yes, number one-- in the upcoming 4A District I/II tournament.
Lakeland, by virtue of their withdrawl from the IEL, is the pre-determined number three seed despite the team's 12-4 record. Lakeland should... should... survive the double-elimination tournament and reach the 4A state tournament in Boise in February.
