Saturday at Vallivue High School, four boys teams played in a pre-season exhibition that gave coaches (and officials) a chance to get ready for next weekend's opener.
Tomorrow (Monday) I'll start with team previews for the guys but here are few thoughts on the four teams based on what I saw yesterday. Remember, these games don't count so coaches were playing a lot of guys and trying various combinations.
Rocky Mountain looks improved. It's year number two and though they still have a lot of youth, they now have some seniors with varsity experience. They will work very hard for Coach Morrison.
Capital, with new head coach Paul Rush, can be described as scrappy. Scrappy works against everything, presses, traps, zone, whatever. If they get some leadership, they will win a few games on effort alone.
Skyview returns a ton of players from last year's undefeated state championship team. They are athletic and can probably compete with anyone in the state. Unfortunately, new coach Aaron Sanders and the Hawks are a 4A team and won't too many shots at the big boys.
Vallivue is also athletic, return players from last season have some size. I only got to see them play one half against Rocky but they looked good.
Check back Monday for the rest of the previews. And if you haven't seen them already, the girls previews are already available. Click here for the 4A SIC and click here for the 5A SIC.
