I'm always a little sad when hunting season comes to an end. I had one of the best hunting seasons ever....and I never even fired a shot. People who don't hunt cannot understand that, but hunters do. I saw more elk this year than ever before, and I saw some trophy bulls. We also saw a magnificient buck on late hunt in Unit 42. So late me take you on a photo tour of our hunting season.....

Here's an elk wallow. Elk love to roll around in these mud pits.

Ran into this mine in bow season way back in the hills.

Inside the mine looking out.

On the same day I ran into the mine, I discovered this old cabin. The miner probably lived here.

This old cabin has survived a lot of hard winters.

In cow season, my brother shot an elk I called in. We have a tradition of cooking up a little backstrap while we are quartering and skinning the elk. Very tasty when it is so fresh!

My favorite bird to see in hunting season is the woodpecker the size of a crow. It's called the Pileated Woodpecker. Look for the red on his head.

At the end of a foggy day, the sun finally broke through

On our late hunt in Unit 42, the roads can be brutal. See the road here? Believe it or not, there's one there.

The beautiful desert country of unit 42. If you see a deer, you'll get a shot...but it may be an 800 yard one.

As we drove home at the conclusion of hunting season 2009, we drove by this very recognizable mountain. Just one question....what would you name it????
