For a few years now my brother, Clint, has been putting together a team of Idaho Select coaches along with some other players and have traveled to various colleges in the Northwest for exhibition games. Last Saturday, October 24, they were in Twin Falls for an exhibition game against the College of Southern Idaho (CSI). The game was held at the new Canyon Ridge High School. A great game throughout, the Idaho Select Allstars managed to come away with a win, 105-103.
CSI has got some incredible athletes. They were led by redshirt freshman Josten Thomas (6-7, 225 lb guard/forward from Washington DC) and sophomore Antonio Owens (6-2, 190 lb guard from Lexington, KY). Thomas finished with 26 points and Owens had 24. Thomas has a nice inside game for a slightly undersized power forward and showed he has some range. The only limitation appeared to be his emotions that occasionally got him in trouble. Owens did a good job running the offense and has decent range.
Also noticable was freshman Brandon Givens (6-6, 215 lbs from Ruffin, SC). While Givens will not blow up the stat sheet every night, he showed glimpses of what could be in his athletic ability. Considering that he is young and still developing, he probably has the biggest upside of any of the CSI players.
The Idaho Select Allstars were led by Ryan McCarthy's 34 points (and 10 3-pointers) while Booker Nabors and Kevin Baker both scored 22 points.
