I have been hunting since labor day weekend, and I know I am behind on my blogs. It's time to start showing you some of the animals I have seen and tell you some of the hunting stories from 2009. Let's get started.....
I have called more elk in this year than ever before. I have also seen more big bulls than I ever have. The wolves must not be decimating the elk population because it seems healthy to me. I do bow hunt, but only for deer. I scout for elk during bow season, and this year it made me wish I had an "A" tag for elk, which is a bow tag. Several different times, I had a big bull very close to me, but without an "A" tag, I could only admire it.
When I called in the two biggest bulls, I didn't have my camera out, and I was unable to get a picture. I did take some pics of some other elk I called in, and here they are:

This is a spike I called in on labor day weekend. He fed next to me for 15 minutes or so before he wandered off.

Here's another shot of him.

A couple of weeks later, I called in a 5 pt bull and his girlfriend!

The same 5 pt.

He hung around for awhile, and then slowly walked back into the woods I had called him out of.

Here's a cow and calf that walked close to me.
So it's been a banner year for seeing elk, especially bulls. The only question remaining is if that remains to be true when the season opens for bull elk on Oct 25th. Time will tell.
