The Idaho Statesman reported Tuesday that Eagle High School's Taylor Kelly has given a verbal commitment to the University of Nevada.
The senior-to-be puts a momentary stop to the history of Boise State's football program raiding the Reno area without reciprocation.
Bart Hendricks, Eron Hurley, Ty Dayton, Chris Carr, and the Cavender twins (Jeff and Pete, from Elko) got away from UNR to play at Boise State. You could put another Elko kid, receiver Tim Gilligan, in that mix as well if you want. Gilligan walked on at BSU as a kicker before going on to a productive career as a pass-catcher on the blue.
But, for once, Nevada seems to have come into Boise's back yard and stolen a good one in the Eagle quarterback. He passed for over 1,600 yards and 14 scores as a junior for the Mustangs before suffering a season-ending injury late in the campaign.

Idaho's Gatorade Player of the Year for baseball is headed to the College of Idaho in Caldwell to continue his baseball career. Twin Falls pitcher Jacob Coats picked the C of I above-- among others-- national NAIA power Lewis-Clark State according to the Twin Falls Times News. There were NCAA Division-I schools... not to mention the hometown College of Southern Idaho... courting the hard-throwing left-hander as well.
Speaking of Lewis-Clark State, the Lewiston school landed a pair of former North Idaho College athletes when Derek Gianukakis commited to the men's basketball program and Lydia Tollbom committed to the volleyball program. Tollbom is a graduate of Sandpoint High School. Gianukakis played his freshman year at NIC before playing his sophomore year at the Community Colleges of Spokane.
