He coached his team to an undefeated season. He coached them to a 4A boys state championship during what was arguably the most exciting state basketball tournament ever. And now, Skyview high school’s head basketball coach, Sean Yeager, is stepping down.

When I asked him why he made this decision after such a successful year, not to mention the very real possibility that the Hawks could be playing on Saturday night again next March, Coach Yeager replied, “Coaching has been a wonderful experience for me. Winning isn't what drives me. It's all about building relationships with kids.  I've been fortunate enough to get to know some fantastic people! However, the most important kids in my life are my own.  I felt it was time to focus on my family and possibly pursue other things that might enable me to support them financially and still be actively involved with whatever they are doing.”

Ironically, Skyview Athletic Director Dan McGee is now faced with finding a replacement whose feet are big enough to fill the shoes being left behind by Yeager. He was replaced by Yeager two seasons ago after stepping down as head coach, before accepting the Athletic Director position at Skyview High School. We are expecting a comment from Dan McGee today and will post it as soon as we get it.

Below is the official press release from Skyview High School:

Skyview High School announced that Sean Yeager has resigned as boy’s varsity head basketball coach, but will remain teaching on campus.  Yeager's varsity teams won back-to-back 4A District III Championships in 2008 and 2009 and this past year completed a perfect 26-0 season, on their way to winning the 2009 Idaho 4A State Championship.  Yeager’s two year over-all varsity record was 44-8.

Skyview Athletic Director Dan McGee said, "The Skyview community is so grateful for all that Sean has given to and achieved in our basketball program, his phenomenal success is a testament to who he is as a person and coach."

Yeager said, "I want to be able to spend more time with my family and pursue other interests."

McGee continued by saying, "We are sad about not having Sean lead our basketball program, but can understand and support his decision."

Skyview announces that Aaron Sanders has been promoted from varsity assistant to the Hawks new head coach, to replace Sean Yeager.

Sanders, a 1999 graduate and player in the SkyviewHigh School basketball program has been coaching in the Skyview system since 2002.

He has been the varsity assistant for the Hawks for the past four seasons helping the Hawks win State Championships in 2006 and 2009.

Yeager is as fantastic a coach, motivator and friend as you will ever find in this world and I cant possibly convey how much he has impacted my life. Best of luck to you sir!

I have only seen Coach Yeager coach a handful of games but from what I saw his teams where fundementaly sound and they played very-very smart. Not surprised they took the 4A title.
