The month of February is always a crazy time around here. Three of the biggest weekends in Idaho high school sports back to back to back. State girls basketball, then state wrestling then state boys basketball. Then, if that wasn't enough, the next weekend we were up in CDA for the All State All Star game held at North Idaho College. Things will finally wrap up this weekend after we cover the State Cheer and Dance competition at the Idaho Center. 5 straight weeks of cream-sucking goodness. The collective brass cajones of everyone involved are looking forward to a little bit of a break.
Kudos to: Everyone here in the IdahoSports.com family that made the best year of online state tournament coverage possible. Kevin Miller, Will Hoenike, Carolyn Wixom, Chris Wood, Gary Jones, Glenn Jones, Vince Hordemann, Dan Letham, Ty Hawkins, Jeff Duncan, Lorin Jensen, Mitch Worthington, Kurt Christensen, Bill Brown and Erik Solberg. You all did a great job!!!
Kudos to: Gary Jones for picking 5 out of 6 in the girls state championship picks. Sorry. I was contractually obligated to say that. Bingo! Ziiiiiing!
Kudos to: Every team in the tournament. From the undefeateds to the .500 teams that snuck in. Be proud of yourselves, no matter where your team ended up.
Kudos to: The IHSAA. Sure, they are friends of mine, but even if they weren't I would still give them kudos for the way the tournaments were run this year. There is a lot of behind the scenes stuff that goes on that no one sees that makes it all come together.
Kudos to: The student sections and pep bands. I love a good pep band. I was a band geek and love to hear great pep bands rockin' it at state. There were tons of great student sections as well. I am glad that it is still cool to dress up as crazy as possible and yell as loudly as possible for your team. Now, if we could just get the IHSAA to allow face painting and artificial noise makers.....
Kudos to: Shelley HS and Fruitland HS boys' teams for giving me what I love most - Threes. And lots of them. 24 three pointers in the 3A state championship game. It reminded me a lot of my playing days back at New Plymouth HS where we were known as the Young Guns. I was more like the character Hendry French played by Alan Ruck in Young Guns II. Or maybe it was more like the character he played in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Cameron Frye......either way, I got to see a lot of treys buried from the best seat in the house.
That's enough for this week. Next week I will get back to the normal Kingsbury Kudos. On to spring sports!!
